The numbers, all in one place

Tap any number to call it. Save the ones that apply to your household in your phone right now — before you need them.

Any medical emergency

911

Unresponsive, not breathing, chest pain, stroke signs, severe bleeding, a seizure lasting more than five minutes, choking, major injury, or anything that frightens you. Call. Dispatchers decide what counts as an emergency — that is their job, not yours. In many areas you can also text 911 if you cannot safely speak.

988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

988

Call or text 988, or chat at 988lifeline.org. Free, confidential, 24/7, across the United States. It is for the person in crisis and for the person who is worried about someone else — you do not have to be in danger yourself to call. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911 instead.

Veterans Crisis Line

988, then press 1

Veterans, service members, National Guard and Reserve, and their families reach the Veterans Crisis Line by dialing 988 and pressing 1, by texting 838255, or by chatting online. You do not need to be enrolled in VA benefits or health care.

Poison Control

1-800-222-1222

Free, 24/7, staffed by poison experts, anywhere in the United States. Call before doing anything — never make someone vomit. There is also an online tool at poison.org (webPOISONCONTROL). If the person is unconscious, seizing, or having trouble breathing, call 911 instead.

Disaster Distress Helpline

1-800-985-5990

Crisis counseling for emotional distress related to any natural or human-caused disaster. Call or text, 24/7, free and confidential, run by SAMHSA.

Postpartum Support International

1-800-944-4773

For new and expecting parents, and their partners and families, dealing with perinatal mental health — depression, anxiety, intrusive thoughts, or just not feeling like yourself. Call or text; current text options are listed at postpartum.net. Not an emergency line: if there are thoughts of harming yourself or the baby, call or text 988, or 911 if anyone is in immediate danger.

Two minutes well spent: add 988 and 1-800-222-1222 to your phone's contacts now, and put the poison number on the fridge if you have small children in the house. In the moment you need it, nobody wants to be searching.
